Similar to San Clemente, this cozy beach town lies just north of it, and still has managed to retain a lot of the small-town vibe as well. I almost always encounter a friendly face and short, friendly chats when I go down to the marina there. The locals are always pleasant, and I love the way they make me feel when I am there. There are hundreds of boats docked there, and they are most enjoyable to look at. I am an avid kayaker, and I regularly go down to the jetty there and get in an afternoon paddle. It is so peaceful being on the water, and I love getting the exercise too.
Just adjacent to the jetty is Doheny Beach, and if you know any history, you’ll know that it has been a well-known and popular surfing spot going back as far as the fifties and sixties. I can actually paddle my kayak just past the jetty into the breakwater there. I just try and stay out of the way of the surfers!
The Harbor House Café is a 24-hour local hang spot probably best-known for their awesome omelets.
There are some really nice ocean view hotels there, if you decide to turn your afternoon visit into an overnight stay or even plan a short vacation there.
